The question
At one year old, is there something I should begin with my child, or is this age just play?
Our answer
Yes, certainly. Care for direct speech with him. Care for pronouncing the words clearly while he looks at you, because he learns from you. Focus on the morning greeting, du'a for him, and repeating your adhkar that you'd like him to grow up hearing — even one dhikr a day in front of him. His memory will store all that. When you interact with him, talk about what he sees: give me your hand, put your foot down, give salaam and return the salaam in front of him. Make him feel the interaction as you change his clothes and clean him. Get him used to listening to the Qur'an. You can try toys suited to this age. May Allah delight your eyes with him.
