The question
If a child is two to five, raised in an ordinary way upon the religion (and for example turns on music), how can we deter them from turning it on? If I tell him Allah doesn't love that, he won't be deterred.
Note that I am his aunt, not his mother.
Our answer
May Allah preserve you and bless you. He learns gradually. Each time, say in his hearing: we have no need for music. Offer him an alternative — a nasheed, for example. Teach him without his sensing anger from you or an authority that crushes him, because the child becomes stubborn in this case, especially since you are not his mother. At seven, the idea will have been laid for him and he'll be more able to distinguish halal from haram, and what is correct with an understanding of what Allah said and what the Messenger ﷺ said. May Allah grant you success and open the way for you.
